Requirement for Tracking PAN Card Status

New PAN card
You can only apply for this application if you don’t have applied for PAN or you have not been allotted a PAN card in your lifetime ever before. Through this, you can apply for the first time. There is no compulsion for a person to be an Indian citizen for this. It can be applied by both; Indian as well as foreigners.
Reprinted PAN card
Another case in which you can apply for this is that if you have applied for PAN card and have received the PAN number but not with the card yet. Then you can go for printing the PAN card by applying to this. After application, you will be given a PAN card with the same number that you had previously been allotted with.
The Income Tax Department (ITD) keeps the record for all your data related to PAN. This is only for those candidates who have been allotted the PAN card but you need to do certain changes in your PAN card data. Data refers to the following;
– Your Name
– Your Date of birth
– Your address
If you need to make some changes in any of these entities, then you can apply for this. After that, you will be issued a PAN card with the same number having only the prescribed changes. So, your PAN will be updated by this.
Just make sure that you fill the form correctly because ITD checks the changes and then issue a revised PAN card. Both Indian and foreign citizens can apply for this.
Status Inquiry for Transaction
This application is used in case you have applied online for PAN card or you make your transactions via online payment or debit, credit cards or Net banking. So this is basically related to those who applies online. There are many benefits for this application feature.
– Status Tracking: Transaction number is provided to the applicant at the time of application. It can be seen on the screen. Enter that tracking number and you can inquire about the status.
– Modifications in Online Payment: Online payment can be troublesome in some cases so you can use this application if your transaction is not successful.
– Receipt of acknowledgment: Acknowledgement receipt can be printed and regenerated through this application. But ensure that this can be done only within 30 days after applying online.
Check the status of PAN application

The track for your PAN card status is kept by the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL). Go to the following link if you want to track your PAN application status online.
When you go to this link, you will be asked certain details. Just fill in those details and you will be able to receive the status of your PAN card within 15-20 days.
This is not the only website through which you can track your PAN card status but it is definitely the most authentic one because NSDL is a government based website.
Tax Information Network (TIN) has PAN centers and facilitation centers all over the country to help the people. These centers cater the requests and queries for everyone, whether you have applied online or offline.
Know the status via Acknowledgement Number
NSDL accepts all application on behalf of Income Tax Department. If you have applied for PAN via NSDL and want to know the status of PAN, then you need to enter acknowledgement number (15-digit number).
Know the status via Coupon Number
However, if you have applied for PAN via UTI/UTIITSL then you will need a Coupon number (10-digit number) which is generated from UTI.
Know the status via Call/SMS
There is another very easy method to check the status of your PAN card i.e. via SMS. This provides faster communication with the government bodies and you can get in touch with them easily.

Or you can also go for SMS on NSDLPAN <15-digit acknowledgement number> and send it to 57575.
Is this process free of cost?
Although this process is simple but it is not free of cost. It requires just to go to the website, entering all details and the application is submitted. But there is a certain fee for this. This fee is Rs.106 having 14% service tax if your address is in India.
But if your communication address is not in India, then the amount is quite large. You need to pay Rs.985 in such cases. This amount includes an application fee of Rs.106 having 14% service charges and dispatch charges of Rs.879.
But with this amount you will be able to have a PAN card for your lifetime. So it is not a huge amount if compared to what it provides.
